3. Personal Equipment, Attire, Archery Equipment and Tack
3.1 SAFETY EQUIPMENT
3.1.1 It is mandatory for competitors [of all ages] to wear a riding helmet while
mounted; during horse try-outs, in the warm-up area and during competition.
3.1.2 A riding helmet is defined as a modern sports helmet designed for protection of
the head during horse-riding. Ie, the structure of the helmet is not of historical design
(real or replica) or modern helmets designed for other sports.
3.1.2.1 Decorative covers are permitted as long as the structural integrity of the
helmet is not compromised
3.1.2.2 National governing bodies may specify any conformity required to specific
quality assurance labels
3.1.3 Rigid body or back protectors may be worn.
3.1.4 The permission of the Head Judge should be sought before wearing an in latable
air-vest
3.1.5 Organisers may increase the requirements for wearing helmets or body/back
protectors. This requirement must be stated clearly on the competition information at
the time of application and a reminder must be sent with the pre-competition
information. Specific rules will be communicated to competitors in the competition
briefing.
3.1.6 Competitors failing to fulfil the IHAA or host (#3.1.5), requirements for safety
equipment may not ride
3.2 ATTIRE AND OTHER PERSONAL EQUIPMENT
3.2.1 Modern or traditional costume may be worn, it is the individual’s or team’s
decision.
3.2.1.1 If competitions have a specific dress requirement this should be clearly
specified on the competition information at the time of entry applications.
3.2.1.2 When it is specified that traditional costume must be worn, riding
helmets are still mandatory (as #3.1.1) and organisers must allow individuals to
wear body/back protectors if riders wish to do so.
3.2.2 It is not permitted for competitors to wear headphones (of any type, including
over ear, in ear, bone conduction) or to play music through portable speakers while
mounted, during horse try-outs, in the warm-up area and during competition.
3.3 BOWS
A bow is defined as an instrument consisting of a grip (handle) and two lexible limbs each
ending in a tip with a string nock. The bow is braced for use only by a single string attached
directly between the two string nocks, and in operation is held in one hand by its grip
(handle) while the string is drawn and released using the other hand.
