during the competition the Head Judge and appeals committee together will decide

what course of action is best for the competitors (and horses) and for the validity of
the competition, and determine how to best proceed. This feedback can be brought
by the team captain (or representative) to the Head Judge or Deputy Head Judge if
available. There is no fee for this.
8.9 Spectators must be required to maintain a safe distance from the track. This distance
shall be determined by the chief referee, but a recommended minimum is 5m.
8.9.1 Judges, o ficials and 1 representative/helper per team are permitted within this
area but should take care not to crowd the edge of the track.
8.10 Nobody may be on the target side of a straight track when the track is open for
archery (practice, warm-up or competition). There will be no exemptions (eg. o ficials,
ground crew, photographers).
8.10.1 Permitted areas for people (eg. o ficials, ground crew, photographers,
spectators) on the Hunt track or Straight tracks with o fside shots (eg. Skirmish) will
be the responsibility of the Head Judge (in consultation with the Hunt track course
designer). Considering both the risk of injury from mis-fired arrows, arrows that miss
and overshoot the target, or horses that leave the track, and disruption to competition
(distracting competitors or spooking horses).
8.11 No horses other than those in the current group are allowed in the arena or in
proximity to the track or within the spectator area.
9. Warm up runs
9.1 There must be provision for competitors to warm up properly, including ground
archery and horse schooling/warming up (without shooting) before each event. Separate
areas should be provided for this.
9.1.1 If the venue set-up allows then a practice / warm-up track for mounted shooting
may be provided.
9.1.1.1 The organiser should provide a marshal to oversee any warm-up area
where mounted shooting occurs, to reduce the risk of accidents occurring.
9.1.2 Rules regarding safety and horse welfare extend throughout a competition
venue, and infractions within the stable and warm-up complexes may be reported to
the Head Judge, as would occur whilst on the competition track.
9.2 The number of warm up runs is specified in the event rules.
9.2.1 It is possible for the organiser to reduce the warm up on the competition track
to one single run, at canter with shooting permitted, in the following situations. This
rule variation must be communicated to all competitors e fectively and in advance
(eg. at the pre-competition meeting). It must be the same situation for all
