4.12 Should a competitor have a significant equipment failure (eg. unstrung bow, broken
tack) or di ficulty with their horse, they should decide whether they can just ride to the
end without further shooting and keep what points they have; or whether they must retire
from that run. Equipment failure of any kind is not considered a reason for a rerun.
4.12.1 It is permitted for a rider to stop to correct their equipment failure. They may
dismount if necessary (but only a ter raising their hand to indicate intent to
dismount to nearby judges) then remount and complete their run. No penalty will be
applied other than the time penalties incurred (the clock should continue to run).
There must be no outside assistance in rectifying the problem or remounting.
4.13 If a rider's horse is lame they should dismount, walk it back to the marshalling area
and consult the Head Judge. If the Head judge is satisfied that there is a problem he may
grant them permission to start that run again on a new horse.
4.14 Where external factors or exceptional circumstances in luence the run a protest can
be made as per General & competition rules #14.1
5. Additional elements
5.1 HTCDs may incorporate additional elements into their Hunt track to increase the
di ficulty. These elements fall into two categories
- Terrain elements, including topographic features and obstacles
- Technical elements, including equitation challenges (EqTE)and archery challenges (ATE)
5.2 There is a maximum of 2 elements in any 300m section of track
5.3 Successful completion of a terrain or equitation technical element may earn a 5 pt
bonus IF the competitor shoots an arrow into the target and registers a scoring hit.
5.3.1 The bonus will be awarded for more challenging elements, but not for simple
ones or for those without an associated target. Competitors will be advised of the
scoring system for each element on the course as per #5.7.
5.3.2 A bonus is available for kikaç and qabaq (see #5.20.6) but not otherwise for
archery technical elements.
5.4 For terrain elements where the HTCD anticipates a proportion of horse-rider
combinations may experience di ficulty, it is mandatory to provide an alternative route to
avoid the terrain element (eg. obstacles, ditches, banks, water features).
5.4.1 The terrain element (ie. route A) must be on the natural line .
5.4.2 The alternative route (B) must be a longer but otherwise uncomplicated route
deviating from the natural line. It will involve longer or more di ficult shot(s) at one
or multiple targets (there must be the same number of shots on both routes).
5.4.3 There is no penalty for avoiding or refusing a terrain element which has a
